Although the import drag racing scene in Atlantic Canada is sparse it’s finally starting to grow and be competitive. There’s definitely a handful of folks who continue to push the limits and get out and play with the big boys. Below are a few shots from the Maritimes last drag racing event of the season “Battle of the Corporations” at Miramichi Dragway Park.
The Euro drag racing scene is pretty much non existent in these parts however you can usually find a few of the CO Motorsports cars trying to save face and prove that VW’s are getting faster and can compete at least a little. The unique part of racing (in any form) is that the community is so diverse and racers respect each other as everyone suffers through the same struggles no matter what the platform. There’s so much to learn and share at the track between the new and old school guys, and it’s this type of interaction that helps make everyone run faster, easier and safer each year.
This was likely one the most successful years here in the Maritime’s for the Import drag racing scene as many managed to get new personal bests and set new records. This is great to see as quite a few of us attend some of the larger events in the US over the season and it’s refreshing to see some of this knowledge trickling this way. When it comes to racing horse power is only a part of the puzzle, it’s about keeping the thing together and getting the car down the track in one piece.
There are some great things in the hopper for both the VW’s and Honda’s this winter so I suspect next seasons will bring even more records broken, or at least a lot more broken parts trying. Best of luck to all the racers.
