With the summer car season in full swing we must look back on our feature VAG event, MVOC 2014. The support from the Atlantic Euro community is incredible to say the least. Even with the Maritimes unpredictable weather the MVOC Rally and Show & Shine once again brought out hundreds of Atlantic Canada’s finest VW and Audis’, proving again that you don’t have to go south of the border to attend a great show with fellow car enthusiasts.
For the second consecutive year the MVOC Rally gathered and began from the Truro Power Center. With a large parking lot and easy highway access it made for the perfect location to start off the weekend. Clear skies produced many amazing photos of our local rides and provided many of the photographers with near perfect conditions to take that sought after rolling shot.
Once on the road the Rally became a real head turner. Its not to often you see hundreds of VW and Audi’s from the early 1980’s to present day rolling down the highway as one. The highway cruise gave drivers a chance to showcase their power, sound and style as GO Pro’s and camera’s captured all of the memories to look back on for years to come. It wasn’t long before the pack had entered Moncton city streets and had eyes set on the feature hotel.
Being two years since MVOC last had a feature hotel, we have to thank the Rodd Moncton for supporting the event and taking in as many cars and people as possible. The featured hotel brought back the ability to have beverages and some late night socializing with a lot of the show attendees. This is where a lot of the new friendships are made and plans are hatched for the next big build. Located right in the middle of town, the Rodd Moncton was within walking distance of restaurants, corner stores and entertainment. The older motel style drive up rooms provided many areas to socialize and meet new people. Having some of the shows best cars parked just outside your door was an added bonus that contributes to the atmosphere of being in the feature hotel.
Early Saturday morning alarms were greeted with cloudy skies and heavy rain. With some ongoing construction and wet slippery conditions it was decided that the show be held in the main parking lot at St-Anselme Rotary Park. This decision was made in the interest of safety for all show attendee’s, their respective cars, and the conservation of the park itself. Once again plans were made to setup inside the palladium to ensure everyone had a warm and dry place to hang out in case the weather took a turn for the worse.
The weather didn’t ruin anyone’s spirit and large turnout seemed to convince Mother Nature to cooperate for once. Noon brought an end to the rain and moments of sunshine for the rest of the afternoon. Just in time for endless video and photo ops, and of course the extremely popular MVOC prize giveaway shenanigans.
With everyone gathered together to watch what was about to unfold it was easy to see the diversity of our community. The ages and genders varied from toddlers to the older folks, not to mention our canine friends as well. Needless to say that didn’t hold the contestants back as they showed just how determined they were to get their hands on some of the incredible prizes up for grabs. Some of the contestants may have even gone to lengths they never thought possible. Congratulations goes out to all the folks who fought with the mud puddles, swimming in the pond, dancing with flag poles or any of the other crazy antics the committee came up with to hand out some amazing prizes.
The entire MVOC weekend is a large undertaking and requires many man hours to come to fruition. The MVOC committee work hard each year to make the event as enjoyable and memorable as possible. The events success relies on the folks who want to see the event grow, and of course wouldn’t be what it is today without the continued support from the attendees and its sponsors. A special thanks goes out to some of our top vendors and sponsors from this year.

To cap off the weekend CustomObsessions hosted the notorious MVOC after party at the Old Cosmo Complex. With the VIP section reserved for Rally guests and the DJ screaming M-V-O-C every chance he could really made you realize just how large of a “family” we have. The whole experience made it a night to remember, or for some not to remember. The after party gives the opportunity to hang out and let loose with some newfound friends. It has been said before and will be said for years to come, the Saturday night after party should not be missed, as it’s the perfect end to an incredible weekend. See you all next year!
