For those that know him, there is no hiding that Ben Frazuel has a wild taste in vehicles. This stands true once again with his 2006 Lotus Elise you see here. Ben has always set himself apart with vehicles that most would only dream to drive let alone own. With one of his previous vehicles being a big turbo B5 Audi S4. Although the S4 satisfied his horsepower needs he got the itch for something a bit more nimble and light weight. What better vehicle to jump into then a Lotus which is half the size of his previous S4.
For those of you that have an interest in how a car performs and handles you truly have to drive an Elise to appreciate what this car brings to the table. There is no question this thing is a real driver’s car. Ben’s Lotus also comes with the “Track Package” option which adds a more aggressive Bilstein suspension, dual oil coolers, lighter wheels and stickier rubber. All these add up and take the car to the leading edge in performance handling.
There’s a common phrase which folks use to describe how a car feels in regards to handling “the car handles like it’s on rails” they say. This phrase couldn’t be more true when it comes to how planted this car feels on the road. Whether you’re accelerating or braking late, you simply need to point the car where you want it to go and it does exactly what you want it to without compromise. The car is so dialed in and has one purpose, to handle well, and this car does it with ease.
Although the car is very unique as it sits from the factory Ben of course wanted to make the car his own. The car now rocks a beautiful custom set of 16×8 and 17×9.5 CCW LM16’s wheels. To give the wheels their own personal touch he had the centers powder coated black and the lips done in orange. This wheel setup compliments the car so well, there is no mistake that you’re looking at something special when you see it rolling down the highway.
Of course with a wild set of wheels there needed to be some other aesthetics changes on the vehicle to suit Ben’s taste. With that came the addition of some aero parts from APR. The APR wing, canards, race sills, side scoops and lower diffuser were added to complete the overall #becauseracecar feel. Even with that “race car” feel Ben claims it’s been the most reliable car he’s ever owned. With over 40K behind the driver’s seat he says “I haven’t had to replace a sensor or anything”.
The power add-ons to date have been minor with just a Fujita cold air intake. Of course this is only because Ben has something much more wild mapped out for this Elise. Future plans as of right now are to swap in a complete K20 and strap a Supercharger to its shoulders. Just when you thought this little supercar couldn’t get any crazier.
