With all the #MVOC2015 pictures floating around social media it’s not hard to tell that we had an amazing event this year. After a few years of crummy weather it was decided to push the show out a few weeks into July in hopes of catching some sun. Obviously we can’t predict the weather but the date change was well received and the sun came out to play. The change in weather provided some great cruises, parties, lazing around the Rotary Park with friends and some stunning Volkswagens, Audi’s and Porsches.
Mother Nature tested the MVOC committee the past couple of years and really pushed all the organizers to dig deep, and despite this the MVOC committee and volunteers did a great job keeping it together. The previous years’ experience and planning contributed in making this year such a success. That coupled with this years title sponsor Dieppe Auto allowed the committee to help focus resources in other areas of the event. It’s our sponsors which allow us to focus more on specific parts of the event such as organization, design, promotion, and adding new activities. We’ve received some great feedback from this year’s event and with nearly 300 vehicles in attendance there’s no mistaken this event is not to be missed.
The Rally portion of the event started off a bit rushed due to a (none VW) accident, which shut down the highway between Halifax and Truro, for what seemed like forever. Even with the couple hiccups we were able to get everything sorted and departed the Power Center on schedule. With clear skies ahead it made for some incredible photo and video opportunities. With well over 200 cars on the Rally portion alone again this year we want to thank everyone for their cooperation and for staying safe. We will be implementing a few small changes next year to help avoid some of the small hiccups we experienced this year.
*** Please take note of the Rally deadline next year, and be sure to share it with others when the time comes. With the different printing companies and sponsors involved in this year’s Rally Pack items we had to be strict on the deadline and unfortunately had to turn a large number of folks away because they missed the deadline. In short, don’t procrastinate next year or you’ll miss out.
As we rolled into the Coastal Inn (MVOC Official Hotel) on Friday it’s wasn’t hard to see the next generation of dubbers are in full swing. A quick walk around the parking and you would find anything from obnoxious sticker bombs to full AWD conversions. As trends change there’s one thing that remains the same, there’s no other auto manufacturer that has a following like the VW/Audi crowd. In a world where everyone hides behind computers and mobile devices it’s great to see folks get together to share ideas and show off their rides. This is exactly why MVOC was originally created 22 years ago and we’re happy be carrying on that tradition.
With the Rally under our belt Friday it was time to laze around the Rotary Park Saturday and enjoy the unique layout and scenery it provides. It was great to see a collection of air-cooled VW’s back in attendance this year. We want to thank the folks at Vintage V-Dubbers for spreading the word and getting some of the best VW’s ever built back for the younger generation to admire.
Clicking through the 300+ photo gallery you can quickly see that there were no shortage of incredible vehicles in attendance. It’s also not hard to tell that most of the MK3’s have officially given up on life making them one of the rarest generations in attendance. Who would have thought? With the vast variety of air-cooled and watercooled Volkswagens, Audi’s and Porsches spread throughout the park there was no shortage of diversity. With a collection of cars like this it can only make your mind wonder on what to build next. The laid back atmosphere enables people to talk to the owners of these vehicles to help inspire, educate and share experiences.
We definitely need to thank all our great sponsors this year. We had thousands of dollars in prizes to give away over the weekend. Our title sponsor Dieppe Auto have been part of MVOC in some way over the past 20 years. Dieppe Auto has always donated great prizes, brought display vehicles and provided volunteers to help out during the weekend. It’s the support of local businesses like this, which help make the event what it is today. We had an incredible assortment of prizes, which made for some hilarious activities. Please be sure to share and support our sponsors much like they supported MVOC.

There were so many top dollar prizes this year that the list would be too long to recognize all who took something home. We want to congratulate the winners who participated in some easy and some not so easy competitions, which make for some memorable moments each year. Whether you chugged a liter of warm milk, jumped in the pond, embarrassed yourself dancing or simply made whale noises you all deserve a pat on the back. “whale”
As usual the after party at the Old Cosmo Complex was a smash. There’s no better way to loosen up and celebrate the weekend then a huge party with hundreds of folks who share the same interests. Although MVOC is over for another year we’re really excited and looking forward to what’s in store next year. We appreciate and welcome any feedback or ideas in regards to this year’s MVOC and what we can add or change to make next year’s event even better. Please leave us any feedback on the MVOC 2015 Facebook event page located here. Until next year, drive safe
