Keane Wheeler...the man.....
about to embark on a journey forever to be cherished every time he looks down his driveway.....
Chapter One- Halifax International Airport
This kid never so much as even driven in the HRM, let alone drive halfway across Canada...
He was definitely in for some culture-shock...sorta
I was on vacation and had nothing better to do...so I decided to document his trip
*take note of one of many Tim Horton's to be had along the way home lol
Checking over the paperwork just to make sure everything was in order....
I asked him if he was ready for this. For this was a trip that he would truly remember. We must remember, that Keane has never flown commercially. Or for that matter...he has yet to own a VW.
Both of those experiences were gonna change for him. I fully held myself responsible for his well-being....and to show him around the old hood...
his world would soon change....
Chapter Two- Pearson International Airport
So far away from home...yet in the middle of nowhere. By this point it didn't soak in yet.
The dude Keane bought the car-in-question from picked us up and brought us to the car.
He came in a 20th Anniversary Edition, Imolya Yellow GTI.....how sweet is that? GIAC, TBE, KO4....
Even better then any limo for any dub fan imho
yes, he ripped that GTI through the 401 for a little jaunt to Mississagua
Chapter Three- The Rowdy VR
The prize in question. 1989 with a VR swap. I guess the swap was done a few years ago.
120k on the motor. Chains were done at about 100k.
Vmaxx coilovers. Staggered 15" Porsche Fuchs. Carbonio CAI. Custom 1/2 roll cage. MK3 dash swap. Passenger side had power window. Badgeless dual rounds. This car had all the goodies...Momo race steering with Momo hub, and some comfy ass Recaros...this thing also had some sick-ass camber!!
Not sure what the exhaust is, but it was subtle and probably resonated because the drone was minimal...but damn it sounded good under WOT...
A few dubbers from around the way came to see the car off. We got the formalities out of the way and got the car prepared for the trip home.
Chapter Four- The T-dot....ohhhh
Naturally I drove the first little leg of the cruise. Keane hasn't even driven in Halifax....let alone TO. I have never driven a MK2 (except for my old Corrado) and for that matter...a VR. My initial drive we quickly realized the clutch was soon on its way out with about an inch of play. Hydraulic?? And the brakes were fucked. They worked, but when dude bled the lines he must have had an air lock because you had to push them all the way in. Great. My worst fears of getting stranded were getting to be a reality haha.
Of course, it was Saturday night. TO was bumpin. Traffic was fuckin intense.
I had a small town Nova Scotian with me, driving a car we knew nothing about. The sketchness was brewing. I knew my way around. So if we got stranded...I headed to a place that was like my second home....
He was a happy camper. But we still had a journey ahead of us.
shiit was sooo sketchy...we even forgot to lock the doors lol
This alley way was across the street from my old house
We saw all kinds of rides, obviously...this one a Murcielago
I ignorantly ripped the VR up and down Yonge Street
Naturally, a staple tourist attraction tour was in order....
We had a hidden agenda at the ACC...
In tribute to our friend Justin Haley, who was an avid hockey player...we tagged the ACC.
The Royal York...
Old City Hall...
Yonge Street again...
We were so pumped on adrenalin, we didn't eat until 4am...
Chapter Five- The Nations Capital
after a short pit stop...we made our way out...
DT Ottawa...
We ran into minor problems during our rip thru Ottawa. We got caught in traffic and she began to over-heat. She stalled a couple times. I had to do a U-turn right in front of Parliament. So we sought refuge and had a little shoot. Diagnosis was we were over heating on an uphill street so the MK2 didn't like that. Boggled for a bit...but she ran fine after that.
Once the car seemed to operate in proper fashion, we left Ontario...
Chapter Six- Non Parle
We didn't venture much into Montreal or for most of Quebec really. After our little scare downtown Ottawa, we just kept to the freeway. We were running on coffee, cigarettes, weed and energy drinks.....so we kept driving. Shit, if we ran into problems, we could have got a lift from this buddy...
Gas was about $0.95...cigarettes was about $6.85...driving a slammed MK2 VR and having people driving by smiling and giving thumbs up....PRICELESS
The sun was setting, so we hit it for New Brunswick
Chapter Seven- Rotary Park...the pre-shoot
This had to be done, since Keane missed MVOC 2009. I'm sure he's stoked for MVOC 2010
There weren't many dubs there, but plenty of ducks...
Chapter Eight- Back in Good Ol' Nova Scotia
I think he had a great time. Something we don't do very often. Something he'll always remember he did...I'm glad I went as well. I'll do it again too.

I did a similar thing a few years ago, flew to T.O. for a vehicle and drove it home (only in my case it was an Econoline van with a wheel-chair lift )
Something I highly recommend to anyone. I was by my lonesome, but had a blast.
Excellent pics and story here! Thank-you very much for sharing/putting it together! _________________
